questions on watering potatoes and planting depth/hilling height
for the rest of my garden, i have soaker hoses buried lightly under the soil that i use to water all thru the season, then pull up and store indoors during our frigid winter. i'm wondering if burying a soaker hose would be the right way to go for potatoes since they'd end up progressively under more and more dirt, leaving the hose to only water the lowest part of the plant. how do YOU water your potatoes? i'm also curious as to how much i should expect to hill them up. this is my first attempt at growing potatoes and i plan to dig a bit of a ditch to plant them in, eventually adding dirt to level them off to the rest of the gardens height, and adding more dirt to hill them up. but i'm curious how deep i should make this ditch, and how much dirt i need to have on hand to hill them up. ETA: i am not doing the tire method or container planting. these are going straight into the dirt of my garden, in rows.
