Raising credit scores
My situation... A few days ago I checked my credit score. It was much worse than I thought it would be (667). I'm planning on moving soon and I feel like I need to raise my score ASAP in order to be eligible for any sort of decent living situation. I currently have one Visa card through Wells Fargo. It has a $2500 limit and I currently have $1665 on it. It was maxed out about 3 months ago, so I feel like I'm making good progress on paying it off, given my somewhat crappy income (I currently make a little over $1000/month). I've had the card for a little over 3 years and I've never made a late payment so I think I'm pretty well established with it. My other account is an MBNA loan I took out when I bought my computer last year. While I pay a good amount over the minimum payment each month, the APR on the account is 26.99%. Basically about half of the money I pay off each month goes towards the interest. I've called MBNA and they said that I'm not eligible for a reduction in the annual APR. Basically, I'm looking for a way to get my money out of the MBNA loan and raise my credit score. My parents have offered (with some hesitation) to pay off the MBNA loan and have me make payments to them each month. Will dropping that debt off my official record help raise my credit quickly? I could also transfer some of the debt over to my Wells Fargo account since it has a better APR, but that wouldn't really do anything for my credit score. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Money makes me nervous and I'm really bummed out about my credit score. EDIT: I've gotten a couple of comments that my score isn't really bad. I just wanted to point out that reason why I assumed it was bad is that TransUnion (the company I got the report from), listed it as a "poor" score and in their comments section basically said that I wouldn't be eligible for loans or low interest anything.
