ran wires across to keep the tall flowers upright. Yippee
Wednesday, July 23, 2008 9 am I dug a hole at each end of the row of Heliopsis grandiflora which are towering over my head now. They are along the side of the greenhouse. I put in a post into each hole and packed the sandy soil back around them. Then I used that big wad of wire from the dump that I retrieved awhile back from the dump proper. I unwound it from being a pair of twisted wires, strung them across at 2’, 4’, 6’, 8’ or something, in front of the plants. Then I put two rows along the back of the plants. Now when they start to lean over, they won’t be able to collapse all over the lower plants and the chairs and hammock! Yes! I am on top of things here before they bloom! I had to stand them up other years but the plants never look right when you do that, so I usually left them alone. They’ll be fine this time, though, unless they break the wires!
