Re-potting a Cymbidium

Re-potting a Cymbidium

I bought another orchid on clearance today, a Cymbidium.
It's in full bloom, but I had it "re-potted" at the store. They just basically took the whole thing out, and put it into a new pot - the medium and everything just stayed together.

I want to wait until it's down flowering and REALLY re-pot it: change the medium, clean the roots, cut off the dead roots.

What's the worse that can happen? Did this first "re-potting" shock it? How can I tell? How fast will I be able to tell?
Will it survive if I re-pot again?

Sigh.
Thank you for your help and advice!!
