Relocating grass?

Relocating grass?

I recently decided to move my garden to a new location. Long story short, this involves removing some grass. Right now the grass is mostly brown with the occasional green blade and given that the rest of our lawn is in a sad state, I'd like to salvage the grass if possible for use in plugging up areas in the rest of the yard. Would it be too harsh to move the grass now (or in the next couple weeks) or would it be a good idea because it's dormant? Like many of you, I'm itching to start preparing for spring. The grass is St. Augustine and I'm in Florida, 8b. Our average last frost date is mid-March. [Edited to change typo - I'm in 8b not 7b]
