renter’s insurance claim

renter’s insurance claim

When I came home today I found that I'd been robbed. Mostly it was my roommate's stuff, but they did take my brand new Canon HD video camera. My deductible is 500 dollars and I paid 680 at bhphotovideo.com I have a few questions: 1) the same camera is now actually more money - $799, since the replacement cost is more than I paid for it, which number do they want? 2) Do I risk an increase in deductible if I mention that I was robbed, but DON'T file a claim? (which they would know if I called them to find out question 1) 3) do they require receipts? I still have the box and I might be able to get a print out, but I'm not sure. 4) My roommate had much more stuff stolen. He also has rental insurance. Would it be possible for him to claim my camera was his and I just split the deductible with him? Its the same company, btw. I don't have the money at all right now to buy the camera again, especially if its over a hundred dollars more than when I paid for it in January. :/
