restoration and cleaning advice

hey guys. this is a question on behalf of my boyfriend, not me per say, though i will probably be helping him with this task. a few months ago, my bf's roommate moved out. the guy had been living in a bedroom in the house, and had been chainsmoking non-stop in the room, with the windows closed. the downside is, now that he's moved out, the room absolutely reeks of smoke, as does the furniture that is in the room - which belongs to my boyfriend. well, we're wanting to get some use out of the room, but how do we go about making the room smell normal again, as well as restoring the bed-frame and dressers to their former glory? we'll be stripping the dressers (the roomie left stains on both of them) but want to make sure that they're smoke-free once all this is done. thank you! *mods : i couldn't add a tag for some reason* *EDIT* thanks for all your suggestions guys - we'll be stopping by the nearest Home Depot and getting this sorted out a.s.a.p. As well as cleaning the room, we'll be redecorating, so as a 'thank-you' of sorts, i'll definetly be sending photos the way of this community. thank you again!
