My mom sent me a big box filled with clothes. Almost 70% of the box was so strong with the smell of cigerette smoke we had to let it air out abit before we went threw it, and one of them still stink. She said they were used clothes, and she smokes, so she didn’t know they reaked. There was only a few shirts we’d willingly wear from the whole box and we ended up with a garbage bag full of stinky clothes. I was jsut going to toss it out becuase it smells so horrible…but I feel bad cuase my mom tried to help us out, so I thought of turning most of them into rags.
I normally cut rags the same size as a swiffer pad so I can hook it on my swiffer stick and clean the floor. My question is…some of these shirts are brand new. They’re sweaters that are still super soft and fleece-y inside. One sweater is a 3XL and the other has a design ont he front so large and crazy we won’t wear it. Would a fleece-y sweater material make good dust/floor rags, or should I find another use for them?
Also…I don’t sew. In this box were two nice silky/polester blouses. Size 24. I wear an 18, and this is the millionth time my mom has sent me clothes FAR to big for me. I want to keep them becuase I don’t have many nice blouses, but I know they’ll look like potato sacks on me. Anyone know any quick and easy ways to alter them?
EDIT: Before someone else tells me to wash and donate them. It was my mom that told me to use what I couldn’t/wouldn’t wear as dust rags becuase she jsut wants to help us out since I;m still not back at work and I told her I was running low on rags for the floor. I have no car, and no idea where the nearest donation center is. I do know that the state ran program gets buckets full of clothes donated form Wal Mart weekly, but still have no idea where the donation center is.
