Secure credit card or should I start paying my student loans now?

I'm interested in making my credit better by 30 points at least within the next month or three I paid off a few things recently that need to be updated on my report but other than that I'm told I don't really have credit due to nothing being used. I'm not sure I understand that but my student loans wont have to be repaid till July/August so I'm told I need to get a store card or a credit card. If I could, I'd like to avoid messing with my credit unless it will help me immediately. Would it be smart to start paying on my student loans now or get a secured card? Which one of these will help sooner? I know it's not a race and it will take time but if anything is going to be messing with my score I would prefer it be quick and painless and preferably a good thing. Also, where can I find a good card with a low rate and low to no monthly fees? I saw bankrate but don't know how reputable the cards are and Bank of America has a higher rate but lower monthly fee. How and where do I look? Thank you for reading my novel.
