Hello,
I was directed here by a member of another community in the hopes that you knowledgeable folks might be able to help me with my questions.
I recently (in the last week) moved up to the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Vista to be exact (in case anyone actually knows where that is) and I am running a motel up here.
I’m horrible with plants, I don’t mean to be, but when they see me coming plants just give up and die without a fight. I have only been here a week, and already the flowers that are in the landscaping here are dying, though I have been assured it’s not my fault and that it’s because it is already getting too cold at night for them.
In any case, I would like some information on what sorts of plants would be hearty enough to live up here at a high altitude, with long cold winters, etc. I would prefer a perennial of some sort that would flower and look pretty out in front of the motel, to catch the attention of passerbys – but that also is not too expensive to start up, as my budget is very limited as far as landscaping goes. Hiring an actual landscaper is out of the question, and my husband and mother-in-law and I will be doing all the work. We have several areas that are in need of some sort of flora, mostly in direct sun but a few places that have no sun at all. (i.e. under the carport by the lobby).
I’m excited to hear your suggestions!
