i've mentioned before that i work at a nursery. i mostly work outside, particularly with the annuals, which i therefore know the most about. however, i'm not a total novice when it comes to perennials, shrubs, trees, insects, and diseases. customers often ask me if i can come to their house and do some planting, weeding, maintenance and up until now, i've said no. [the boss doesn't like -- but i don't like the boss, sadly no one does, though otherwise i love my job -- it at all but i've found out recently that many of the other employees do side-jobs so i figured hey, why not?] i've done work for family friends this season without charge but the strangers/customers know i will be expecting payment. my question is, do any of you do this type of work and what is a reasonable fee? i was thinking in the $20/hour range simply because i can't imagine if i worked for just one hour getting less than 20 bucks. i know that one of the guys at work -- though he is much more experienced and does more intense labor -- charges $32.50/hour. thoughts? thanks in advance!
