Someone stole my zinna!

Someone stole my zinna!

This has been a really weird morning so far for me, and the second in a string of strange events this morning is I go outside to leave for work, and while my fiance is checking something out on his truck (altenator=dead) I walked over to a bed that I have 3 groups of 4 zinnas planted, or atleast I did. One of the groups now has 3 plants!!!! You can see what looks like a clear defined curved line right in the midst of the group as though someone decided to dig it up with a shovel! They were nice enough to leave roots exposed and all. I know this had to happen sometime between tuesday night and this morning (friday), my question is, since the roots were exposed for what could have been almost 3days, is this going to cause harm to the plant? I mean I know zinnas are almost out of season in my area but was just curious.
