I need advice. I have about ten pots of herbs on our very sunny back patio. Everything is doing well, but since about two weeks ago, the leaves on some – my peppermint and sage are in worst condition – look like they are being regularly chewed or eaten. I never notice any bugs on the plants while I’m working with them in the daytime, so I’m assuming this is some nocturnal activity. I doubt it’s slugs – a couple of plants on a rather high table on the same patio are suffering from the same ailment, and no slug would make it there. I looked closer today – some leaves that have been chewed up have some sort of microscopic black droppings, I guess. Needless to say, I would prefer if I was the only one to consume my herbs!
Same is happening to some of the foliage up front (nothing edible there): on one of my primroses (and NOT the other two), the blossoms barely open and they already look like someone chewed off all the tops off the petals.
I would appreciate any educated guesses as to the cause; and any (least harmful and most organic) solutions!
