Spices for cheap
I didn't see this anywhere in the memories; hopefully it'll help you like it helps me. My hubbie and I use lots of different spices in our food, and I always cringe when we're running low because the little jars o'spices are so amazingly expensive most of the time. Also, the local grocery store is great for generic cereal and canned foods, but only carries the expensive McCormick spices. Or so I thought, until yesterday. I needed chili powder. I found the McCormick jar, 2 oz for $2.09. Then I decided to look in the Mexican food aisle to see if there was a Mexican chili powder for cheaper. There was. And how! There was an entire endcap of spices in cheap packaging. I found 2 oz of chili powder there for $.79. I also saw paprika, ground ginger, and cinnamon, all very inexpensive. We're lucky to live in a neighborhood with many Hispanics; there was a great variety on that endcap. But I know my mom, who lives in a very white town in Northern California, has been able to get some of these same spices. So the next time you run low on a spice, keep the jar and refill it with spices from the Mexican foods aisle.
