Spring Mucking

Spring Mucking

Spring has come early to my usual Zone 5, and I'm sort of at a loss at what to do. It's going to be 65 deg this week! I'm sort of new to perinneal gardening. What do I do with all the dead stuff? Like on hydrangeas and holly hocks? What about daisies and more bushy plants? I'm sort of confused about spraying as well. I am trying to get away from using chemicals as much as I can. Do I need to spray my hawthorne, cherry, peach and apple trees? Dogwood? Do raspberries and grapes get sprayed? When should I cut my roses back? What should I be doing at this time to prepare them for spring? And lastly, why don't any of my books talk about this stuff? Thanks for your help!

I thought this might be a hollyhock, but after seeing a recent post, I think maybe no.
