I’m getting ready to start seeds indoors. It’s been a long time since I’ve tried this, so I’m trying to read as much as I can. Planning on trying to start all my veggies and herbs except tomatoes. I have an area in the basement and have bought one of those crazy plastic things with the peat pellets and plastic lid, and have a fluorescent light on chains that I’m going to use with a timer. What I’ve read is that I should use one cool tube and one warm tube and start at six inches away, 14-16 hours a day.
I am wondering if I could start some bulbs inside at the same time, say in a nice big pot of fresh, sterile soil? Some lily bulbs mostly. (Asiatic) Is this feasible, and if so, might they bloom this year? What about other bulbs, maybe some lily of the valley?
I’m in Zone 6, St. Louis area. Thanks for any advice!
