strange weather…

Normally about this time of year I'm dealing with a California freeze. Nothing as major as the western and northern states, but enough to have to give extra care and protection to some of my outdoor plants. We've had some cold weather, but nothing major as of yet. Today I noticed a rather odd occurrence. I'd covered up my Gerbera last week to protect it from nightly cold weather, but since our cold has been mild the last couple of days, I took off the cover to let the gerbera soak in some fresh sunlight. When I took off it's cover I was surprised to see it had a fresh bloom! I've never had my gerbera bloom this time of year! Normally I'm pulling off dead leaves as it's going semi-dormant. This year I'm doing both... pulling off dead leaves AND watching a new bloom open up!
