Student Loan Consolidation?

Student Loan Consolidation?

I have about $7000 in two private student loans. I was on a graduated income plan where the payments were $70 for a year, which was great and I was sending them a bit over that. Unfortunately that is up and they raised the payments to $235. The apr is something like 18%. Not doable at all. Their customer service sucks and they refuse to do further payment plans until I am unemployed or at least three months past due. I've considered going back to school, but my mother won't do FAFSA and it's too late for this year, plus this company states they still accrue interest while I'm in school, so that wouldn't really help. I'm trying to consolidate them for a better apr and lower payments but I'm having trouble finding a reputable place to do it. One website states go with big banks. Another says avoid big banks altogether. One says Sallie Mae is good. One says they are the devil. All Google did was flood me with adverts about Bad Credit Student Loans. I know a good percentage of this community is also saddled with student loans, so I figured this may be a good place to get some ideas about where to start. So if anyone has any reccomendations for consolidation places, places that didn't screw you over, charge decent rates, etc I'd be thrilled to hear them. Oh, and if it matters, I do have an available cosigner with decent credit. Mine is pretty trashed though because I decided to lower my limits to my balances on my cards. Whoops.
