suggestions on what to plant?

I live in Toronto - zone 6ish. My house backs on to railway lines, and for a while there I was dealing with a lot of poison ivy. It actually used to come right up to my back fence and grow up it! I've been getting rid of it for a few years (spraying I'm afraid...), and finally it's to the point where it is not near my house at all any more, and even the ones further away are dying back. There is lots of area for plants to grow there now, and I've been transferring anything out of my garden that I dig up, so there is plants growing back there. It's hard trying to get it so it's not all weeds. (This year was TONS of garlic mustard!) I need some suggestions of what I can plant on a southfacing hill. Very sunny, dry, sandy area. I'd like a few different things tall and short, since I do sit and walk back there occasionally. I also want it as a bit of a barrier so the poison ivy will not creep back up towards my house. Something that spreads would be good. I wanted to plant jewelweed since it is a poison ivy rememdy I've used successfully, but it's just to dry for it. It grows perfectly in my front garden of course, and I keep pulling it up and planting it back there to no avail. Anyhow, suggestions anyone?
