Sunflower woes and preparing fresh corn for the freezer

Sunflower woes and preparing fresh corn for the freezer

Ok, two questions for all you lovely folks!
First off, I have sunflowers, which I adore. However, it seems that some type of white fly thing just SMOOTHERS them. At first I thought they were aphids, but they’re too big, and grey-ish white in color, and they fly really, really easily.
I hose them off nightly, and I’ve tried spraying orange oil on them, but nothing seems to keep them from coming back. The leaves do look a little worse for wear, so I don’t think they’re harmless. Have any of you experienced this, and what did you do to get rid of them?
Second, corn is crazy cheap here right now. Not only that, but it’s crazy tasty. I would love to stock up on it, but I really don’t know how to prepare it for the freezer. What do I need to do to it, other than shuck it? Do I steam it outright, and then freeze it? Can I just throw it in as is, and steam/boil it once I want to eat it?
TYIA!
