Taking a cutting from wisteria?
I'm a relative newbie to this gardening game: I like growing assorted veg and flowers from seed, but nothing too adventurous so far - I've only had a garden for one full summer, and it's restricted to containers at that. However, we're about to move to a new house, one with a garden that isn't paved with concrete - whee! Here's the wisteria part: my parents moved to their first house around the time of my birth. I'm about to have my first baby. Back then my grandparents planted a wisteria in their front garden (purple Wisteria floribunda or sinesis, not sure), one which is now big and beautiful, and I'd like to take a cutting from it for my new house.. providing the current owners let me. We shall see. Anyway - I've never taken a cutting before, much less planted one, and since this one will (hopefully) come from a third party's garden I would like to get it right. I've been reading factsheets, but there's nothing like hearing the voice of experience :) Can anyone give me any tips about what time of year to go round there, which part of the plant to aim for, prep before planting, good/bad places to plant.. anything really? Thank you!
