Hello Group, So here's my deal: I worked in NY from January to August. I live in Albany. I am now working in Pittsfield, MA just over the border. I've been working in MA from September to now. I still live in Albany. Question 1: Do you think I could deduct the $ it costs me to drive to work everyday? An hour each way - 100 miles every day. (Let's not get into the fact that I should live where I work and save $ not driving that far.. I will be moving closer to MA in the next few months but will stay in NY as I don't plan to have this job forever and my family is all in NY) Question 2: Do I have to file in NY and in MA or just in NY because that's where I live? Question 3: Is it worth it to go to H&R Block or a place like that to straighten out this mess? How much do those places charge? My mom doesn't want me to go to one of those places because she has heard all these stories about how the people who work there didn't help people get the deductions, or backed them up when the IRS came to call. Are these places worth it? My father has always filed for me and up until last year I never made enough anyway. Now I am doing it all on my own and I scared.
