So, I graduated in May and still haven't found a job, so I am considering using a temp or staffing agency, but I am not quite sure how they work exactly. First, what is the differences between temporary, temp to hire, and direct hire? I'm assuming the first one you work only for a little while and then stop, the second one is temporary now but can be permanent, and the last one is a permanent position? Second, how should I utilize them? Should I call/email them or just walk in? If I walk in, what should I wear/prepare for/bring? Third, I am thinking of using the temp agencies in a few cities, so is it okay to sign up for different branches of the same company (for example, appleone or manpower, etc) in different cities? I can always drive to those places for interviews and relocate if needed. (I'm only thinking about within Texas) Fourth, does the temp agency pay me, or do the companies pay me? Do they usually offer any benefits? And lastly, if anyone have any suggestions for temp agencies that have branches in either Dallas, San Antonio, or Austin (or all), feel free to post them as well. And if you want to tell me your own temp agency stories, or how long it took before getting a job, or any rants or raves about them as well.
