Terrible happening ~ look what I just found…

Terrible happening ~ look what I just found…

I cried. I'm not joking, I cried. I've been home sick and I hadn't seen my garden for two days. I felt good enough to get up and go outside to check things out. I brought with me the spray I bought for the powdered mildew, and I wanted to see if I could cover the pumpkin that didn't have leaves around it anymore (someone suggested it earlier today, since my pumpkin plant had powdered mildew the leaves were dying but the pumpkins lived on). As soon as I saw it, I gasped and dropped the spray bottle and just stood there. The gardeners must have come yesterday or today. Now- remember that the plant mostly at the base didn't look good b/c of the powdered mildew... but omg... My largest and oldest pumpkin was no longer attached to the plant. It was chopped and then It was picked up and put on the soil. This is where it used to be: look at all the chopped pieces everywhere... everything was just totally chopped up and beyond savable this one might be my only chance of survival. It was a bit of it chopped out but it's still strongly attached to the plant and on maybe the only vine that is attached to the base without major damage... look at how destroyed even this baby is... I brought my oldest and biggest pumpkin inside. I cried. I literally couldn't speak. wow I was totally emotional, I am so attached to my garden. Not only is it the first year I've actually had and tended to a real garden, but it acts as so much for me. I am in recovery from something and I always wanted a garden, it became a hobby, my first hobby in so many years, to help me thru things. My mom was shocked at what happened. I asked her to call the gardening company. I mean- come on- even if it was an accident, why wouldn't they call or come to the door to apologize/ let us know?!?! They must have been high off their asses.... to just chop up a whole plant like that- it looks like they used a weed wacker. And when they realized what was happening (that must have taken forever) they stopped. But I am afraid that the main part they chopped up is what all my living stuff is attached to. :( I am going to leave it all.. I mean, even at the end of it I have 4 baby pumpkins growing. I think everything might die- but this plant has been so strong. I am going to leave it and see if anything will survive. This was my "prize" plant. I might even say my favorite. It was the one I loved and tended to like crazy. I watched it grow and change and took care of it almost every day. Along side my zucchini, peppers, chilli peppers, banana peppers, tomatoes, this plant was definitely a top favorite. here it is, chopped a bit, and off the plant :( I wanted to wash it off and... mourn it is how i felt. I decided to cut it open and see what the inside looked like. At least I could do that instead of watching it die? EWWWWWWW maggot: I cut it outside.. look at this fucker. Do you think he came in today or yesterday? I looked at my other large pumpkin and didn't see any signs of a maggot. the seeds are huge! it looks so lovely! do you think I can still eat the seeds? if I take them out and toast them? They look almost at least full size?
