Ok. So here’s the deal. My gf has been wanting to change her space for a while and we actually started looking through magazines for inspiration. We had to put it all on hold though because we went on a trip, and now she’s in Spain for a couple weeks, which means she has to put it on hold for budget reasons.
However, I decided I would be sneaky and basically redo it all while she’s away, secretly. I’m basically working on no-budget, craigslisting as much as I can and using the funds to get more stuff.
Her space is extremely tiny, so I’m doing my best to make it seem larger and make it more efficient. Today I finished the kitchen about 95%. The only things I need to add are a few more hooks, canisters and a magnetic knife holder on the wall to free counter space.
Before

As you can see, the kitchen before was rather cramped and tiny. She’s been using grocery bags as garbage because the sink is stuff with pots, cleaning supplies and boxes. The counter space has a drying rack, bottles and cups. Cabinets were line with some foam and stuffed with the usual spices, tea, cereal, pasta..etc.
After
I opened the space up and made it feel larger by simply removing the cabinet doors.

I replaced her grocery store spice jars with nice acrylic ones above. I wrote the names of the spices on the bottoms of the jars to hide it.

These are my favorite new kitchen items I bought. They’re click tubs from oxo. The lids lock into place/unlock with that huge button on top. The seal is pretty much air tight.

I got her an under the sink trash bin and storage for the cleaning supplies.

Another one of my favorites. It’s a recipe book holder, we’re trying to cook more often. I love to cook but sometimes she’s so busy she ends up ordering. I’m currently making a recipe book with things we’ve made before and some new recipes.

And the best part is that it folds under the shelf!!!

I also utilized the space on top of the shelf as storage. She has a huge collection of fashion magazines which was taking up so much space on her bookshelf. Since I’m getting rid of the shelf I had to find a new solution. I bought these huge magazine folders (which are extremely heavy duty) and stored them on top, along with her pots, pans and large pitchers that used to be under the sink.
more soon!
