My first try at starting seeds was pretty disastrous. Only 6 plants of the dozens and dozens of seeds I started still live today. One of them is a sunflower I started in February. Every source and every gardener told me that sunflowers need to be directly sown. Of course they told me this after I put about 7 sunflowers into a Burpee tray. I guess this “little” guy is the exception that proves the rule.
He’s got 3 directly sown brothers growing behind him. They went into the ground mid-April. He’s got two months on them. When I first put him in the ground in the beginning of April I thought he was a zinnia. If I had known it was a sunflower I wouldn’t have put it in the front. Yeah, I’m new to this.
