too acidic?

too acidic?

Hello gardeners!

This is my first post in this community, and I recently joined because this is the first year since leaving my parents place that I have been able to have my own vegetable garden. I live on an island near Charleston, SC, and the soil in my yard is pretty much all sand. I did soil tests and the PH was 6.0-ish, and I’ve put in loads of top soil from Lowes, and some compost. Still looked mostly like sand.

I have a friend who offered me some horse manure from her field. I didn’t realize that she didn’t have year-old stuff, that it was only a few months old, just from her horse pasture, not a manure pile. I stuck the stuff in the garden anyways and mixed it all in, figuring that at the very least it would help retain water more than the fast-draining sand. However, I’m afraid that might not have been the best idea. My mother tells me that ‘new’ horse manure is very acidic and could kill my seedlings. Anyone here have any advice for this situation? My mom suggested some lime powder, but I thought I’d ask here so I don’t have any more massive tactical errors! Thanks so much!
