During the spring planting season, my DH asked me to plant some marigolds, as it reminded him of his grandma, who used to plant marigolds every year. I was definitely game, so went to our local gardening Mecca, Merrifield, and grabbed a few marigolds.
I planted them throughout my container garden, and put a big one in with my jalapenos and garlic (shown above). I started noticing that anywhere the marigolds were in the garden, there were zero bugs. I looked it up, and found out that marigolds are a 'companion plant'. Companion plants are planted alongside other plants to keep away pests. It works! I have gorgeous, unblemished, non-nipped plants in my backyard anywhere the marigolds are.
This was my first foray into container gardening with veggies, and I (oops!) planted my jalapenos way too close together. I hope they grown anyways!
