A good friend of mine just found out he had his identity stolen, but not to rack up any bills or loans…it was stolen and the person who stole it was arrested for marijuana possession in Texas. (where my friend also lives) So now it looks as if he’s been arrested for pot, which isn’t the case at all.
I advised him to pull his credit reports from www.annualcreditreport.com to double check that that is all that’s fraudulent out there, but how on earth do you contest something like that? He only found out because he’s trying to get an apartment with his girlfriend, and they ran a check on him.
And yeah, it’s really not me, since he lives in Texas, and I live in Iowa. I feel really bad because this apartment was going to help him get out of a bad situation, and now he’s hit this roadblock.
Any suggestions I can pass along to him?
