I’m the pregnant woman whose husband’s job was eliminated while we were it the middle of moving for a transfer.
I didn’t get to reply to all the replies to my post a few days ago. The support I got really touched me. I expected to get yelled at for "getting myself into this situation." The pregnancy forum I’m on that happened. I was ripped apart for not having six months in savings if I’m not rich. Excuse me for not being rich. That forum is a thing of the past to me. But the support here, some of the comments really made me cry. I was in a scary place and needed understanding and support and help, and got that here. Thank you all so much. I think I’m going to make a new account. This name no longer applies.
Well, that company ended up with another job opening they offered to him. It comes with a big pay cut, BIG pay cut, so we’ll still have some money shortfall, but it’s not only better than nothing but we are so fortunate to get our insurance reinstated. It’s a load of stress relief with worry still, but I know we’re lucky. Tomorrow I need to call around and try to find a new doctor who will take new patients this late in a pregnancy. The one I had lined up who I ended up not being able to see from the insurance cut has had some shady things come out. Maybe a blessing in disguise in all of this.
I’m going to ask another question too. Since money is tighter and the only trimming we can do is with our food budget and we don’t want to have to have his mom buy our groceries all the time (she’s a blessing who dropped quite a lot to make sure we have food here, especially for me and the baby, and would have us live with her if her own place weren’t too small for us to be there legally), what is the best way to eat cheaply and still get all I need? I’m on prenatal vitamins. But what are the best cheap foods? I know this cut means an end to roast and chicken every night, but I can’t complain right now. It could be so much worse for us. About the only things I don’t eat are hot dogs, bologna, mushrooms, and bell peppers. Husband only doesn’t like tomatoes. Anything else goes. There are no food allergies or dietary restrictions. His job is energetically demanding, and I’m home all day, if that matters. If it takes two hours to prepare a meal, that’s okay, I don’t have time constraints.
Even if I don’t get to reply to every reply here, I thank you so much for your suggestions and ideas.
