used book stores

used book stores

so i have an excess of books that have not been read in quite some time, and will most likely not be read again for quite a while, if ever. i tried taking them to a used book store today that gives credit for what you bring in. i'm fine with store credit. however, what she didn't tell me over the phone was that you can only get credit toward the type of book that you bring in. so if you bring in westerns, you can only get westerns. if you bring in fantasy, you have to get fantasy. personally, i think that this is crap, because all but a very small section of the store was romance, which i don't read. so what can i do with these books? i've considered joining an online bookswap site, but i don't really want to pay to ship stuff out, and i like to be able to look at a book before i buy it (ever since that time i opened up a new-to-me used book and found the pages stuck together with something that suspiciously resembled blood, i've had that hangup). my options are: wait until my mom's friend has a garage sale, and sell them there. try one of the other book stores in town; one of them only gives you.50/per in exchange, though, and the other one is way out in the middle of nowhere, and i'm not sure i want to drive that far. however, while money would be nice, even in small amounts, i would like some new books... that don't feature shirtless, extremely well-hung built vikings. so what should i be doing, in order to be able to get a few books i haven't read before without spending any more of the preciousss?
