Verizon, text messaging, and spam

Verizon, text messaging, and spam

Have any of you successfully argued with Verizon out of paying for spam text messages? I've now gotten 8 in just the past 24 hours (4 since I went to bed last night). All of them are from similarly named accounts ending in @live.com and similarly composed spam. I haven't opened the 4 I got while I was asleep. I don't have a text messaging plan since I don't do it often, and it works out cheaper for me to just pay the 10 cents each. I realize right now it is only 80 cents, but that is still my money, and I've worked very hard the couple of years to get myself out of debt. This includes not text messaging my friends because I don't want to pay for it. I'm thinking Verizon has three options: -Either turn off this kind of text messaging and not charge me for the ones I've gotten -Block this kind of spam and not charge me for the ones I've gotten -Give me free text messaging to accommodate the spam Thoughts? Suggestions? EDIT: I've done the vtext.com thing and blocked all web based text messages as well as email. I called Verizon today, but the rep I spoke with told me that the people who handle this kind of issue are closed on Sunday. So I'll call tomorrow about getting refunded for the spam I got. I'm also contemplating having them shut off my text messaging. It's something I need to think about.
