I cringe at riding in on the newbie wave, but with all the recent activity, I can't resist. Having watched this community for a while, I'm always jealous of how beautiful everyone's spaces are. I've finally gotten around to taking some pictures of our apartment, and while it may not be as put-together as some, it's come a long way since December when we moved in. My boyfriend and I live in a "cozy" one-bedroom in New York City. It's small by most non-NYC standards, but quite nice for the city -- and we have more than enough space. Until recently, our place was a bit dull, but things have been coming together: I invested in a new chair (the first piece of furniture I actually bought myself), and I found and framed some neat artwork and knick-knacks. Our apartment's style can best be described as "colorful eclectic," which translates to "our furniture is mostly a mish-mash of hand-me-downs." I've embraced this by purposefully decorating with multi-colored pieces in bright primary colors -- a kind of non-matching style -- knowing that having matching furniture is an undertaking few couples in their 20s and living in their first apartment can only dream about. Before the photos, a disclaimer: I'm aware it cozies up a room to NOT place everything along the walls, but because of my wheelchair, having a wide open space works best. We do plan on getting a nice Persian-esque carpet come late fall, though -- even though we love the hardwood floors. So, without further a-do...and please offer any comments/advice you may have!
What you'll see upon stepping through the door (to the immediate left is a closet and a mini-hallway leading to the bathroom and bedroom). Obviously, we get more than enough light. Now look to the left... ...a little more to the left. (You can kind of see the mini-hallway to the left of the piano.) (Back to center.) Now turn to the right... ...further, and you'll see my boyfriend's space. Standing in the front of the window, a view of our "dining room" and kitchenette. (The front door is to the right of the pillar.) The obligatory bathroom shot. In the bedroom is my "office." Our bed. I love my comforter!
