When household items attack.
The other day I pulled up the lint trap on the dryer to stick my three-foot-long duster down in there to pull the dust bunnies up. It's a good idea to pull your lint screens and dig around in there to get stuff out because on models like mine lint collects down in the bottom and presents a fire hazard. I have a 15 year old dryer though, this is not a needed cleaning for newer dryers. Anyways... I was reaching down into the narrow slot on the top of the dryer, had my hands down in there with the duster and WHAM, caught my nail on my index finger under a piece of metal and ripped the top of that nail clean off and straight down into the quick. Bled everywhere. Happened so fast all I had time to do was scream once then look at the hand in complete wonderment. Damn dryer bit me! I've busted several toes on vacuums. Never learn my lesson, keep on leaving the vacuum in bad spots and WHAM, bust that little toe in half again. Today I was making a fresh salad, had a dozen different ingredients in the salad bowl and I had a pair of silver salad tongs to toss them with, the kind shaped like a "A" and I was vigorously snapping the tong into the salad to grab and turn and I vigorously caught my fingertip in the crutch and squeezed it into the spot where one piece of metal folds over the other and that's all I did. It bit into my finger so deep I bled pretty bad. =( Lost my appetite for salad. It was deep enough to need a stitch but I've bandaged it all up. Now I'm walking around with two bandaids on. Household injuries I really could have avoided and now I hope to help others to avoid the same kind I make. I'm rather clutzy though.
