yet another mystery plant

yet another mystery plant

I saw a BUNCH of these in Beartown State Forest in Western MA. It wasn't a tree, but a shrub.. but some of the leaves were BIGGER than my hand (at last a foot wide!) Someone told me it was a moose maple(?) but it doesn't really look like a maple leaf to me.. and it was more shrubby than a tree. Anyone? PS My tomatos are flowering and I have some fruit.. and my string beans are EVERYWHERE! But we've had alot of rain the past two days, hopefully the crop won't suffer too much. And wonder of wonders.. my 'moon and stars' melon seems to have sprouted and is doing nicely! I've never had much luck with melons, but maybe this will be my year :)

I would also say that’s a moose maple, Acer pensylvanicum. It does look a bit shrubbier than “traditional” maples, like a very small tree. Was the bark stripy? That’s another character.
