yikes!

yikes!

while weeding/raking out my garden this morning, i happened to uncover a nest of some sort with babies in it. i didn't stick around long enough to figure out what they are/were (i really hope i didn't kill one of them, i couldn't live with myself if i did!), just long enough to hear them squeak and whine, and for me to bolt to the house (cursing like a drunk sailor) before the mama came back. now here's the kicker: if the mama doesn't come back, what do i do? i know that in some species, if the nest is disturbed the mother won't return, and if that's the case, i'll feel really awful leaving these poor little things as orphans. i know that i should figure out what they are before doing anything, but still, suggestions? anyone?? please? edit: they're baby rabbits, no bigger than the palm of my hand, all +10 of 'em. i covered them back up (they were shivering, but i didn't touch them!) and am hoping the mama comes back. *crosses fingers*
