A better way to handle it…

So, we are a poor skills community and as someone posted in a comment recently, sometimes personal beliefs can help make poverty a little more bearable. In the spirit of sharing these ideas and tips, what beliefs help you make it from paycheck to paycheck? I'll share some of mine below: - I personally believe that suffering makes people stronger. So when I go through a really hard time and I just want to collapse I remind myself that my experiences now will make me a better person in the long run. - I believe in my ability to change my own circumstances. I am a huge personal responsibility advocate, so even on those months where I have barely made rent I remind myself that my choices have led me here. While this seems negative, it serves as a positive for me because it reminds me that I can start making choices that will get me out of the situation I am in. I'm going back to school - it is far off right now because I want to pay for it instead of taking loans, but every time it hurts to put money in savings (that I would rather spend on like, food) I remind myself that my choice now is making my future better. - I believe in Karma. Many people with money I know aren't very grateful and are kind of mean to poor people they don't know. When I'm feeling vindictive and just exhausted at being poor, I remind myself that once I have funds I won't act like that, and that by being nice to others I will always have a support group. - Back to the choice thing, I believe in positive thinking. As I was stuck in a traffic jam with a car that could die at any moment, slowly getting later and later for work, there were a few ways I could handle it. I decided to be happy that so many people had jobs to go to that there were traffic issues. Instead of being mad about being late for work (and the loss in pay, I'm hourly), I decided to be grateful for the extra morning minutes and I used the time to call my father and just catch up. I think that if you are pleasant to be around more opportunities come your way. - I believe in being proud of myself. Not the "I'm better than you" pride, but just understanding that no matter the circumstances, I can be proud of how I behave. So those are some of my mental tricks that make it easier to go through the day. My spirituality and my money don't really mix (unless I'm buying spiritual things, lol, but that isn't really a poor skill), but I've found that my belief in being rewarded for being a good person has definitely helped my outlook on life. Wether that reward is from a diety or from just how people react to other people I leave up to the individual reader. Now, post your mental tricks/beliefs/things that get you through the day!
