African violet success…

African violet success…

Hi! One of the first plants I bought was an African Violet. I really wanted it to be a healthy, flourishing plant so I read up on care tips and giving it a correct environment. The first thing I did was to change the pot from the cheap, tall narrow one it came in to another plastic pot that was shallow and wide, which was a shape that was recommended. I also put it on a "pebble tray", which is this case, I've got large polished rocks and crystals and glass beads and marbles in a really large tray, lots of water. Unfortunately, that first pot was totally inappropriate being that it was plastic, and the violet was too damp and got all rotty and I thought I'd lose it. I decided to transplant it to a terra cotta pot, as I'd read that those were appropriate. Someone in this community advised against it, saying that african violets don't like terra cotta, but I decided to try it anyway. Well, five months later, here it is... I just think it looks great, and I'm so happy that not only did it NOT die, but it's just so healthy now and besides the flowers you see on it, it's got TONS of flowers buds just waiting to open!
