Application Advice Appreciated (Ah, Alliteration.)

Once again, dear poor_skills, I come to you in my time of need. Eventually I'll have something to contribute, I swear. : \ I really hope this is on topic, because it's been tough finding an active community that fits my question, and the members here always have great advice anyway. Basically, I got a tip on a job opening. A tip meaning a sign on the door said they were hiring, haha. But really, I know the guy behind the counter at this comic shop, and he gave me advice for filling out the application in a way that would suit the manager. He told me that there's a paragraph near the end where you talk about why you'd like to work there, and that you should take it very seriously instead of blowing it off because the shop is laid back. Pretend as though you'll be graded, even. Then he leans over the counter (away from the camera, I guess) and whispers that I shouldn't write about why it would better me, or why I'm great in the paragraph, because that's what separates who's in and who's out. Says he's whispering because the boss is kind of difficult and he could get in trouble for sharing tips with me. Him offering the advice in that way has left me really cautious. So. I'm kind of blank about what to say that has nothing to do with me. I figured something along the lines of (and this is a very, very rough/short draft): [Comic Shop Name] is the best place in town to buy comics and memorabilia. Merchandise is always of the highest quality, and the shop is extremely up to date on new releases and current trends. The employees here are both courteous and amiable, which I feel reflects the way they are treated by their employer. The atmosphere of the store and professional attitudes of its employees keep customers coming back. (or something yadda yadda I start blanking out here.) And. Um. That's kind of all I've got. Which makes me the lamest applicant ever. Obviously I'll word it less er..stupidly later on, this is just what was on the top of my head during the bus ride home. And I don't mean to cheat on my homework here or anything, but I'm just lost on what I can talk about that doesn't have to do with my personal enrichment. Does anyone have any advice on what sort of things I should touch on or not touch on? Just for information, the comic shop obviously deals in comics, memorabilia, posters, gaming stuff like dice, etc, and they also rent/sell anime and anime related goods like manga and CDs. Um, it's a very relaxed atmosphere, and I've been going there for probably over six years now. As always, any insight is greatly appreciated. : )
