Autumnizing/Winterizing

Autumnizing/Winterizing

The rains have come to London, and it feels decidedly winter like. The majority of my summer veg is now gone, aside for some straggler runner beans. Aside from my usual planting of bulbs in late October, I thought I might put in some winter veg, but I'm thinking it is too late. Is it? I would have liked to put in come cruciforous veg. Also, am I right in thinking that I can till in lots of mulch and compost into my naked autumn soil before true winter sets in to help bulid it up for spring planting? Thanks, LM
