Yesterday, after going to my local hospital for Physical Therapy, I just missed the bus and had an hour to kill. I spotted the coffee shop run by the women's auxillery (not to be confused with the hospital cafeteria), and decided to check it out. The shop was very clean, sunny, pleasantly decorated, staffed by genial volunteers (mostly retired women) and comfortable. I had a daily special, a mushroom swiss burger, a side of huge, fresh onion rings, and iced tea. Tasty, prepared to orde, and the check came to under well $5. A similar meal would have cost at least $1.50+ more at a fast food joint, even more at the local sit-down place. I suspect that, in most communities, the prices will be proportionally similar. I am less sure of large metro hospitals. I wouldn't cosider this an option for dates, taking your mom out, or a meal every day, but if you visit a health center frequently like I do and want the treat of having a meal out, this may fall within the realm of affordable.
