Cheap microwave popcorn

Cheap microwave popcorn

To my surprise, I've found a lot of people don't know you can make popcorn in the microwave from simply the dry kernels. A big bag of those kernels is cheap, and they last for a long time--keep them in the freezer and they'll last a few years, I think. To pop them, just put a SMALL handful of the dry kernels in a brown paper lunchsack and fold the top over a few times to loosely close the bag. (You don't need to add oil, salt, or butter.) Microwave the bag for a couple minutes--I usually turn it off when there's about 5 seconds between pops, because it is easy to burn the popcorn if you microwave it too long. Sprinkle some salt on it, and enjoy!

After popping it, you can also sprinkle or coat it with other toppings, like carmelcorn syrup. Popcorn is one of my favorite snacks because it's crunchy but much cheaper than chips, and it also isn't fatty. (Oh, and save the paper lunchsack to use over and over!)
