First - Thanks to everyone for the comments re: modeling. Definitely gave me some things to think about in terms of keeping myself safe! At the moment, I'm making about $750/month, before taxes. I'm working the max number of hours at my part-time job, and have been applying all over the place for a full-time one. In the mean time, I've been paying my rent & bills with what's left of the money I had saved, back when I had a full-time job (had to quit to do an internship, and couldn't get the job back afterward). I'm a single girl, no kids, in NYS. My rent is $450, plus electric & cooking gas (usually another $60). I also pay for internet, but I don't think they look at that. My parents have been on my case to apply for food stamps until I get a better job... because while I make sure to cover my bills, I tend to go without things like, well, food (subsisting on cheap junk food, which I realize isn't exactly healthy). If I lived closer, my parents would be loading up the fridge for me (they worry like that), but they're 6 hours away, and were both recently laid off. My question is this: Am I even likely to qualify, since I do have some savings left? I've never applied for anything like this before (I've always worked at least 2-3 jobs at a time), so I'm clueless. I had planned on the savings going a bit further, but unfortunately, it took a hit last month due to car repairs and expensive vet bills. Thanks in advance. :)
