Dove’s Bed and Breakfast

Dove’s Bed and Breakfast

In my home summer is the season when I get the most visitors. This year I've got a full schedule of people visiting my home and I'm in full "cleaning" mode today. When I get company it's not just for a day or two, it's usually for two weeks and they are usually coming from 2200 miles away. I try extra hard to make sure I give them a space of their own to get comfortable within. I try to make sure I have accommodated their every need while they are in my home. Here are some of the tips I use to make sure my friends and relatives have a wonderful time at Dove's Bed and Breakfast. 1. I get the list of places to visit ready. Things of interest, local fairs, farmer's markets, festivals, and flea markets. I am ready to go anywhere at any time and my guests are never bored while they are here. I set up an extra computer in my "digital den" or I give them access to my lan line so they can hook up their own computer to my internet line. Part of my entertainment is our movie screen in the living room. We have a huge selection of movies and they are welcome to chose what they want and we can watch it on the big screen. It's quite the treat for my folks, they are in awe of the "home theater" concept. 2. I give them a house key and my car. I very rarely have to let them rent a car, I just ask that they gas it up if they use it and that they map-quest everything so they don't get lost while here. I’ve hand drawn maps of my neighborhood for my parents because they like to go walking when they are here. Mom got lost the first time she visited and ended up way out in the country somewhere and had to go potty. She ended up tinkling in some farmer’s apple orchard amidst a herd of dairy cows. I can just imagine what would have happened if a policeman found her at that moment. This wouldn’t have happened if I had just given her a map the first time. =D 3. Plan menus. I plan about a dozen things to cook and purchase most of the ingredients before hand. 4. Air the guest room out. (Providing you have one) Put fresh sheets and pillow cases on the bed. Keep out an extra blanket just in case they get the chills at night. I’ve vacuumed and dusted the room, changed all the bedding, put extra hangers in the closet, and put out two chairs for sitting and putting luggage upon. I’ve got two empty shelves and a table top for space to put their things. I have a bedside night light and I made sure the alarm clock is plugged in and ready for use. I put in a few assorted magazines just in case they wish to lounge around and read on down time. It's a bonus if you have a dresser with some empty drawers for them. Currently I don't have this but I have made sure to have surface space for laying clothing upon. 5. Fresh towels in the linen closet. Fresh wash-clothes. Shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and extra toilet paper in the cabinet. I make sure the bathroom has been cleaned and the litter box has been changed. I make sure there’s soap available and hand lotion also. It’s also a bonus if you have a spare hair dryer available. 6. Show them around the kitchen lay-out. Make sure they know where the drinking glasses are and silverware. Show them the medicine cabinet where you keep your aspirin and cold meds. You never know when they are going to get up in the middle of the night with a bad case of heartburn or a horrible headache and need something from your cabinets. 7. ENJOY THE VISIT!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's about it. It's all part of having a stress free visit and making your guests feel wanted. As a house guest you should pitch in with a few minor chores and help your hosts. Offer your services if you see something needs to be done ( a shirt sewn, a picture hung, a meal cooked) Unless you hosts refuse these services, of course. Mom's going to be flying in tonight. I'm giddy with excitement and cleaning everything in sight. Her and I are driving to Vegas on Monday for a four day visit. I'm bouncing off the walls with anticipation. Have a great weekend and a great upcoming week, my Divas. Be well! xoxoxo
