Here's a tip that has saved me a lot of money: shop at farmer's markets. Produce is much less expensive than at a grocery store, and usually fresher too. I go to the market on a Saturday or Sunday morning, and with $25 get enough produce to feed myself and my partner for 2-3 weeks. I also buy dried beans there, and herbs and spices in bulk. At the biggest farmer's market in my town, they also sell very good potting soil for very cheap. Shop carefully. Compare prices at different booths, and examine the food before you buy it. You can get very good deals and eat very well.
