Food Savers and Sealers… Worth It?

Food Savers and Sealers… Worth It?

Hi, this is my first post. I've been reading over this community for a few days--I can't say I've read everything yet. I'm married, no children, and we're scraping by on little money, so I guess this community is for me. I'm not very good at managing money, so I'm trying to learn the skills. My husband is dealing with a lot of illnesses right now, so I'm the only income earner right now. We're also both students...although he's on temporary hiatus. We're getting a student loan check next month, which will help to supplement my income (after bills, there's no food/household money or for doctor's visits). Anyway, some of it can go to a "luxury" like a new kitchen appliance. I got a little over $100 for my birthday in January, which I saved--until we needed it for food. Anyway, that's getting paid back to me, with a little more for whatever I want. I wanted a KitchenAid mixer, but now I'm thinking of getting a foodsaver instead. That would really help with our food bill and food prep. time. We both cook, and could cook a lot ahead of time. Has anyone else gotten a food saver? Have you found that it helps you save money overall? I'm so tired of choosing which bills not to pay so we can eat and do laundry and go to the doctor, and then still get to the middle of the month and be scraping by on whatever change we can find around the house and the ten or so dollars left in the account. Our food bill is ridiculous...something needs to be done. (I read a great post below about saving money...saved it. maybe I should get a freezer...) -Katarain
