Inexpensive Cell Phones: where & what to buy?

Inexpensive Cell Phones: where & what to buy?

Hi ~ I was wondering if any of you could tell me the best (i.e. cheapest) place to get a cell phone other than ebay?

I already have an account with T-Mobile and have for years, but about a year ago I made an impulse buy and purchased a Motorola RAZR V3 because Costco had it on special (with a contract renewal) for $49. So I thought, “Ohhhh not a bad deal when it comes to cell phones, and so pretty!”

I generally research things before I purchase them and this impulse buy just confirms that that is the correct things to do. It had a flaw in the screen when I got it, and it was the biggest hoopla ever to get it replaced (despite being under warranty) but that’s a story for bad_service. After lots of trouble they sent me a new one, and now it has developed the same flaw, about which the tech people said “Oh yeah, Motorola has lots of problems with that, they keep having errors in manufacturing the RAZR screen, most of the models are flawed like that, it just happens.” Also despite me having a hard, plastic case on it, it’s falling apart (each of my other phones lasted 3-4 years, so it isn’t me!). Add to that the fact that it takes approximately 234989789 buttons pressed to do each command and is impossible to keep clean (I have no idea why, but the screen doesn’t clean well, and I have to be so very careful not to disturb the screen at all, or the weird flaw thing spreads).

Basically I need a new phone, even though I purchased this one a MERE year ago, even though it is technically a top-of-the-line model etc. The warranty is up, and since I resigned up for a 2 year plan a year ago, I am not eligible for a nice phone upgrade deal as I was when I purchased the RAZR.

I am looking at the Samsung t219, which is $20 and the most basic of basic (after owning the RAZR I realize that I don’t need any of the “cool” features as long as I can press only a button or two and be able to use the phone as a phone or alarm clock) and the Samsung stripe, which is $40, but has a camera (not sure I need that). These prices are from a T-Mobile store.

So after all that blather the actual question is (still), is there anywhere that I can get a basic phone cheaper (except for ebay, have had several friends get scammed on phones that way)? And…if anyone wants to suggest good, inexpensive phones, that would be great too…I would like to stay away from ANY Motorola models though. My budget is under $50.

Thanks! :)
