Need some free/low cost healthcare info for specific ailment
Hello all, I just went through a hell of an experience and am slowly getting back on my feet. I'm currently unemployed and have been struggling just to pay rent while my unemployment goes through it's process getting approved. I currently have either just edema or lymphoedema in both legs, more pronounced in my left leg. It's gotten to the point that I really need to take care of this. However, I have no insurance. Therein lies the problem. I live in Kansas City, MO. I currently go to Swope Healthcare where I receive a 100% discount for medical services (aside from the copay, which ranges from $25-$40 per visit), but honestly my faith in them has been shaken. My current doctor there put me on Lasix for the edema, which I went along with, because I don't know much about it. However, a friend of mine who is currently a massage therapist and has a background/experience with lymphoedema, suspects that that is what I have and says that taking a diuretic won't help and will cause further damage. So now I'm thoroughly confused, and I'm thinking I probably want to see a specialist. Again, no insurance. Does anyone know of any specialists in that field that would take me for reduced cost if I paid cash? Or, even better, any kind of funding program for people like me that would allow me to receive care for this condition for free? Or hell, even an inpatient program that would be free, I could go for that, anywhere in the country. It would be wrenching to leave everyone I know, but worth it, and I could do it - put everything in storage, board my cats with my family. Or even a low-cost health insurance for the poor, something that would come in under $50/month but would cover me for this condition, with low low low copays? Thanks in advance for any tips/suggestions/knowledge!
