Question about killing weeds

Question about killing weeds

I live in row homes/town homes and no matter how much I try to keep my yard clean - neighbors on both sides don't do as good of a job. So I can weed and weed and weed and they will just come back in a strong force thanks to good ol' Mr. Wind. As of this point - I've stayed away from all chemicals and only hand picked the weeds from my yard/garden. But this year it's just too much for me. I remember hearing that vinegar worked well for killing plants - would it be ok for weeds? Or if someone knows of a safe weed-killer (method) to use that won't taint my soil bringing possible harmful chemicals into my fruit/vegetable plants - I'd be much obliged. Thanks!
