Sewing?

Sewing?

So, I'm short. I also can't sew at all. Well, I can sew on a button, but that's about it. I live in Chicago, and I just paid $36 to get two dresses hemmed, which is completely ridiculous. Any poorskills ideas on how to get hemming done cheaper? I went up and down my neighborhood today and asked prices. The lowest price to get pants hemmed was $12 and the highest was $18 (for jeans, original hem? I'm not sure what that means, but I think it's just to have the yellow thread like my jeans have now. Is that really it? Why do they charge $6 for yellow thread?) Anyway, anyone ever used Craigslist or anything like that to get some sewing done? P.S. I have three pairs of pants I need hemmed-one dress and two jeans. I don't have the patience to learn how to sew, especially right now in the middle of finals, so that's not really an option, even though I know it's the best. Thanks!
